Sort by ... not working properly

I am experiencing a persistent issue where the sort by settingis not being followed. Every time I open a new document, the sort by feature is being ignored, requiring me to manually set it to sort by "xxxx." Only then am I able to reselect the desired sort by option, "yyyy." I kindly request your assistance.
