The ability to keep the app running in the background but minimised/close to tray would be great

Hi,
Yeah I've been looking at this for a while. I may have to do some trickery with trying to implement this so that all notifications are forwarded to a handler and that will use system notifications. Chromium already handles some notifications but that is only while the application is open.
