Improved AI mod causes crash at Silver Rush

During the quest Heartache by the Number, I can not enter the Silver Rush to investigate the Van Graffs (with or without Cass). The game crashes to desktop and generates a crash log when I open the door.

I solved the problem by disabling this mod:

Improved AI (Navmesh Overhaul Mod) -- Version 6.0

With the mod disabled, I was able to enter the Silver Rush and complete the quest.

I encountered this bug after setting up a "patched vanilla" install of viva new vegas (using the GOG version of the game), and transferring my save files to the __MO_Saves folder. There is a mention of the same bug on reddit.
