I stumbled upon https://doi.org/10.1016/j.envsoft.2017.01.021 which seems similar to what we envision for remote-bmi. Perhaps we should do a more thorough check.

I had a quick look they have only Python client and server, no openapi spec and run multiple models in a single web service.

Their and ours is different, but worth mentioning in README to avoid confusion.
