Question about which-key-persistent-popup

I see that which-key--hide-popup has a condition inside depending on which-key-persistent-popup. But which-key-persistent-popup is only declared and never used anywhere else... Is there any reason for that? because it is not a custom either...

It was the result of this discussion, #213 . I couldn't tell you if it's used by anyone right now though. It wasn't meant to be a configuration option.
