Currently, when the widget is removed from the desktop, the backend stops working as well, causing color schemes to not change when changing wallpapers,

If the widget can be hidden from the desktop, the backend would continue to work, and the widget wouldn't be seen.

I'll look for a way to detach the process from plasma. The auto-start feature is meant to take care of this, but is broken when the backend is installed using pip/pipx due to #193 which is fixed but unreleased.

If the widget can be hidden from the desktop, the backend would continue to work, and the widget wouldn't be seen.

You can hide it to the tray, that way it's only visible after expanding it, and will still work in the background

Any idea when it will be released?

Probably after #126 and the Open Build Service packages are done. Feeling kinda burnout right now so can't give an exact estimate, but will try to get it done during the week.
