It very looks like ...

Is there any alternative to annotator? Any active fork?

I would say hypothes.is is the most active fork but I am not sure of the exact history behind it and have some concerns about governance, open source and the overall corporate orientation (even if non-profit).

Was wondering what the crack with this project was too... Is it still being maintained?

I saw @tilgovi take a PR in in 2017, but the development of 2.x seems to have stopped?

I try to be responsive to pull requests, but do not actively work on Annotator anymore. I would be happy if others want to work on this project.

If anyone is interested, I've been working with others to boot up a new suite of annotation tools under the Apache Annotator (inbuating) project over here: https://annotator.apache.org/

Hi @tilgovi - would it be reasonable to point visitors to https://annotator.apache.org? it looks like there is more activity there, including your own work. Doing so might help transfer some of the momentum from this project (many stars, ongoing bug reports) to it successor.

I've submitted a simple pull request that might serve the purpose.

Thanks for all the work you've done on this project!

Thank you for the pull request. We've discussed this a few times. I think I have often been unsure about whether it was my place to make such a decision, and believed that it should always be possible for some new maintainers to step into this project. That may be unlikely at this point.

I'm going to focus on getting Apache Annotator v0.2.0 out soon, and then I may revisit this and merge your PR. Thank you very much for the prompting.
