Could it be possible to use os.js with node-os?

Hi!

I would like to know if it is possible to integrate os.js with the node-os project. The idea would be to have a graphical interface in node-os, I wonder here if this would be possible to unite two open source projects to create something amazing. Could it be possible to use os.js with node-os?

Technically I suppose this is possible.

Not really sure how you'd set up a graphical frontend in nodeos though. I remember vaguely this being discussed in the past, but I struggle to find the thread :/

I would be happy if os-js supported node-os - in part because half of my work could be done. The other half of the job would be less complicated to do.

I am in fact working on that since a while i have a complet execution plan ready and i am doing a lot of progress but i am working on that since 10 years alone At present i am doing a complet rewrite of OSJS that stays api compatible with it but i have a lot of additional stuff

one small part is that it is used in one labs experiments tutorials from me:

anyway you can all expect soon some backports and some more effort from me https://github.com/stealify is my small project i am writing a complet new Operating system based on v8 that is able to build whole webplatforms and i can also replace v8 with any eshost compatible runtime. But there are strong reasons for v8 as i am running that stuff on the kernel ring 0 level and i invented a whole module and component system for v8

to fast stamp out whole operating systems that are fully isolated and linux compatible if you load a linux component but the whole concept when it is finished will not depend on Linux code anymore

i even do a own graphics layer AsteriskGL *GL which replaces WebGPU but is compatible with it and also replaces Mesa

the most funny thing and experiment that i did was boot a linux x86 emulator written in wasm and then deploy OsJS on that.

I also call my self the successor of node-os which is not maintained anymore because it was to hard i now invented the concepts to make maintaining such a large project possible and fun again. i keep you updated.

First of all there is a lot of more then you could probally grasp at present the core part is https://github.com/stealify/web-platform

It is a initative to build it self but as i do slow progress i invented a new form of editor which at last lets me make iterations much more faster.

Stealify gets compiled by Compiling v8 it self i am chromium dev and i am working on a v8 build that builds it self and move the above mentioned layers under v8 that means everything then gets integrated into v8

The Most working demo of that concept is at present the public justjs project https://github.com/just-js/modules this are the current c++ modules that work out of the box with v8 there are even compilers like tcc

so stealify is at the core a language and the engine parts will go to https://github.com/unlicense-code/awesome

Which i will market as a Storage engine which is a unikernel i can not expand the context to far in here if you want a demo of what is possible today and some benchmarks see:

where we rank 1 at composit and many other tests. in fact we outperform anything!!!!! so the next step is to port that results over into a new operating system but it has no NodeJS IT IS V8 CORE at Ring 0 replacing the whole linux kernel

The join would be great by the way i would want to even move parts to OS.js directly as i like the name Stealify later gets only Stealify Lang and some compiler stack parts and standards we can move all the visible parts to OS.js i even did rewrite HyperScript Core so hyperapp and did add some nice templating Tag features. would love to exchange more information with you so we can do progress together.

At Present the most essential parts are to get the web editor running that should power the build process and task manager as also replace vscode and offer also blocky a block based editor like blueprint for the Unreal Engine to fast build Components out of modules represented by blocks with diffrent shapes that can be combined see a demo:

now about the os.js bridge part of your question the v8 engine can directly run Chromium or Chrome in so called App Mode and directly link into the devconsle interface we call that DPC DevTools Protocol Connection in general its a Handle based RPC IPC System working as a bridge till the more performant IPC Implementations are more wide implemented in the Chromium Project it self.

DPC Allows to controll window and the content directly from nodejs or v8 you can see that today massiv used by playwright or other browser automation frameworks.

Let me answer the Future question isolated:

• Node-OS was simply Linux with NodeJS as Init Process.
• Stealify / Awesome / Just / B8G / Fuchsia OS are soon all v8 at the core which was also the part that made NodeJS Possible in the first place.
