Hey, thanks for the kind words. There were some known issues for the underlying coloring algorithm implementation. That being said, it was the best (C++) one we have as far as I could find on Github.
I meant to dig a little deeper but never found the time. That being said, the issue was quite rare and mostly cause the function to stuck. The output, if it finishes, is always valid.
I will work on a CRAN release over the next week or so. Also, big fan of your work around graph packages!
