Although the existing audio description icon is the standard one (and the one I suggested!), it's in the same style as the more conventional CC button. There isn't a suitable audio description icon in the Material Design library, but I'm sure someone could make one. The obvious thing would be to just do the letters 'AD' like the 'CC' icon, but it would be very close to the 'HD' icon.

So I'm opening this issue for suggestions/ideas?

I made the current AD one based off work I found online, but no, it shouldn't be too hard to create one that looks like the CC icon with AD inside. I'll pop open sketch and see what I can do.

We have an AD icon in the pack now, (http://videojs.github.io/font/). Does that mean we can close this issue?

Oh, just re-read the issue, it's about making the AD button look like the CC button. @mmcc is there any updates on it?

I made a little progress, but I think I was running into sizing issues when I had to put it aside. I'll pick it back up later this week and see.

There are some alternative Audio Description icons (see http://www.afb.org/info/living-with-vision-loss/video-description/13 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/television/audio_sub), but in the same way the Material Design CC icon doesn't look exactly like the traditional [CC] icon, the AD icon should follow the Material Design style while still being recognizable, and not too easily confused with the HD icon.

The material design CC and HD icons are not very legible at a small size. Having three very similar icons doesn't seem great, especially when two relate to accessibility.
