Is a 1ms timer necessary? #1

Having the timer run every 1ms makes the debugger go crazy, and I don't think it is necessary. Can the interval be configured? I'd prefer 100ms.

@mcapodici I don't have capacity to tackle this right now, but if you want to make a PR for it I'd be happy to review and merge it
