This bot currently allows you to extract information from Google Hangouts conversations and/or send back information to a conversation from external sources (events, requests, API calls).
We are currently working on the bot and this wiki, we'll continue adding information as we can.
This bot is planned with these objectives in mind:
- Follow an ongoing conversation, acting upon its messages according to its filters.
- Give information back to conversations when an event is triggered or by request of the users (via slash commands or a web API).
- We would like this to eventually evolve into a logging tool for chats.
We have a group conversation where we talk every day and share links with each other, discussing those links. From time to time, we need to dig back a link shared months ago and we could use a list of just all the links we shared.
We also mantain Linux servers and work using Git repositories, and receiving notifications about our servers or about updates on our repositories would be useful for us.
Although there are solutions for both cases, we want to benefit from a simple tool that uses what we already use all the time: instant messaging.
We are currently working to interact with Google Hangouts conversations using hangups, but with a bit of work this could be used/adapted to work with other instant messaging providers. We don't have plans to use nor implement other IM services at this moment.
